So you’ve decided you’re having new windows installed. The good news is you’ll be adding value to your home, as well as increasing its warmth and comfort level. The bad news is there are so many window choices that you might not know where to start. From double glazed to triple glazed and an array of shapes, sizes and colour to choose from, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
Here at Prior our window experts have been fitting modern windows for decades, and understand which designs suit different properties. From timber sash windows to contemporary aluminium windows, they will always offer free advice and help you make the right choice to achieve your dream home. Take a look at some of the window options available from Prior Products.
The frames
There are two main elements to a window – the window frame and the window pane, and you can customise both parts. For the frame you have three main materials to choose from: PVCu, timber or aluminium. Wooden windows look great in traditional properties, however they don’t offer the same energy saving benefits as PVCu. Aluminium windows are the latest state of the art design, which gives an ultra-sleek contemporary look. Aluminium windows are sustainable as they can be recycled, and are resistant to corrosion and fading. The frames are slimline so you get the added benefit of more glass and less frame.
Once you’ve decided on the material to be used for the frame, you can then choose the right colour to match the exterior of your home.
The glass
With the window glass first you can choose the level of glazing. Double glazing is now standard in all new homes, as it is the eco-friendly choice. If you want to go one step further, Prior also offers triple A glazing, which offers a more superior energy performance. With an extra pane of glass, you can make your home even warmer and save money on your energy bills.
You can then of course choose the style of glass in your window. Standard plain glass can be used, or you can choose to have a frosted pane if the window is in the bathroom, for example. Many homeowners also choose a pattern on their glass for large bay windows in the living room or bedroom. Alternatively, you can split up the glass by opting for Astragal Bars. These give the Georgian appearance of small individual window panes rather one large piece of glass.
