How to clean your double and triple glazed windows

The quality and cleanliness of your double or triple glazed windows are one of the first things that visitors will notice about your home. Follow these simple steps to keep your windows gleaming all year round!

How to clean inside double glazed windows

Cleaning double glazed windows doesn’t have to be difficult. PVCu windows are a cost-effective option for your home, however they can discolour over time due to exposure to UV light, so we will first explore how to remove yellow stains from your uPVCwindow frames.

How to clean double glazed window frames

  • Mix 1 cup vinegar to 4 cups hot water
  • Spray the uPVC with a spritzer bottle to make it look new.
  • Allow for a 10-minute resting period.
  • Wipe down the surface with a clean, dry towel.

Do not use bleach or a scouring pad to attempt to shift stubborn stains, as this will actually damage and scratch the frames.

Regularly washing your window frames with a solution of warm soapy water, using a soft cloth, will help keep discolouration at bay for longer.  This is especially important if you have white window frames!

Our rehau rio flush fit windows are a great option if you want to move away from high maintenance white frames. Our flush fit windows are available in a range of colours and may be customised with a variety of hardware options, including both contemporary and traditional styles, to suit your own preferences and taste in design.

How to clean inside and outside double-glazed windows

When it comes to cleaning double or triple glazed window-panes, channel your inner window cleaner and use a squeegee to sweep from side to side and top to bottom. There are window cleaning solutions available which will give you that extra shine, but be careful not to get this solution onto the window frames. Only use soft cloths or kitchen roll on your windows to avoid scratching and damage.

Removing condensation from inside double-glazed windows

Evaporation occurs when cold air comes into touch with a heated surface such as the inside of a windowpane. If you have an issue with condensation in your home, there are ways to prevent condensation from occurring, and ways to remove it when it does.

Opening double or triple glazed windows will increase ventilation through the home and placing an extractor fan in the kitchen or bathroom will allow steam and heat to escape and increase air flow. A dehumidifier can also help to lower the amount of water in the air and prevent condensation from forming.

In the middle of winter, opening your windows might not be an option. A quick and easy short term solution to your condensation problems would be to use a hairdryer to remove the condensation build up around your windows. Consider leaving windows slightly open as the weather begins to warm up in order to maintain consistent airflow. This is a more long-term solution.

Triple glazed windows  very rarely show internal condensation so this could be a worthwhile investment if you have regular issues with condensation.

Likewise, if you experience condensation in between your window panes, this could be due to a crack in your window seal and you should contact us to get your double glazing repaired.
